Beat The Rush

A video filmed for the Cyclox Short Film Competition - 2017

We had an absolute blast filming this piece. The brief we were given was essentially to get people out of cars, and onto bicycles for their morning commute. For this, we wanted to juxtapose two different kinds of commutes, exaggerating their pros and cons of both respectively. Why take the car to work, getting stuck in traffic; having to park; and starting your day with a damaging level of road rage when you can experience the exhilaration of blasting down the towpath and look like an absolute badass.

We took some inspiration from the editing styles of Edgar Wright's 'Scott Pilgrim vs the World' and 'Shaun of the Dead' and mixed his quirky style with  exaggerated Michael Bay-isms. Using slow-mo not to hide shoddy filming but to create the sense the epic adventure of an Oxfordshire commute... To capture some of these shots with our limited budget; we set up tripods in the middle of the road, precariously cycled in breakneck pace holding a gimbal setup, and prayed for dear life (and insurance coverage). We hope you enjoy this video and jump on your bike tomorrow morning.
